my (short and sweet) life story
i am a sioux city, ia native and bishop heelan high school graduate who received my BA in interior design with a minor in business from the university of northern iowa. growing up, i worked as an assistant for the lovely and talented Patty Thompson as needed from grade school through college. Patty was definitely a huge inspiration to me-- her honesty, bubbly personality and personal touches (not to mention loads of talent) are traits i hope to emulate in my design ventures. there isn't a doubt in my mind that i love design because i was lucky enough to observe her general fabulous-ness.
after college graduation at UNI, i moved to the BEAUTIFUL san diego, california! i completed my internship and quickly started my own creative business for the FIRST time-- interior designer, personal shopper, artist, project manager and more. i also worked in furniture sales and kitchen and bath design while in san diego.
three years of sunshine later, i moved back to the midwest and was hired at an architecture firm and thereafter, a design studio. i feel this has molded me into a great mix of both residential and commercial expertise and i'm lucky to have had these fantastic, dynamic and challenging career paths.
i recently moved from sioux city, ia to TAMPA, FLORIDA and i am so thrilled! i live in south tampa/palma ceia and am slowly transitioning my practice here while attempting to learn my way around a new city. if you are an existing midwest-based customer, please contact me if we have not yet 100% wrapped up.
i love and miss my clients greatly but am excited to start this new chapter of my life. cheers!
my (short and sweet) design story
having spent much of my life interested in art and decorating, interior design was an easy choice as a college major. i quickly realized i also enjoyed marketing, business and any creative outlet while further enhancing one's surroundings.
it has been proven (and i truly believe) that productivity and happiness are directly related to your environment and i cannot stress this enough! your mental and emotional health, mood, and even the amount of food you consume can all be tied back to your ambiance. the happiness and comfort i can extend to people through my job is rewarding every day (cheesy but true). in addition, my knowledge of color psychology, key use of lighting, feng shui, ergonomics and other insider tips are all things i'm here to help you with whether at work or home or somewhere in between.
i can help you create a space you're proud of-- let's mix and match current pieces with a few new, move some things around, paint a few walls and make smart financial decisions while still keeping the space beautiful and functional.
i can handle commercial or residential projects of different calibers and have a deep background in commercial design to help with budgets, contractors, ADA and fire safety codes and more. i have 10+ years experience in the field and am not here to sell you a thing, although i am open with vendors if we need to find something wonderfully unique.
please call or email to discuss my hourly rates-- prices vary based on project scope, budget and deadlines.
